Detached - A Bit of History and Going Forward

Hello!

This is going to be a long one, so I'll add in a tl;dr version at the bottom.

Detached is a project that I started nearly a year ago. I wanted to go in big and with a bang, so I did that, with about 32 events available upon release. The whole point of this was so that I can set the stage for what to expect in terms of quality and whatnot.

Detached was originally going to be released with 10 events covering the prelude but wouldn't have any of the sandbox elements in it until the next release, and it was more or less ready for that in October. However, at that point, a lot of the quality of life stuff hadn't been fully realized yet, and the UI was very rough if non-existent. Thinking back on it now, I think this was the right choice, because I don't think it'd have done as well as it has if I had followed my original plan.

So it then got expanded by another 4  Main Events to at least introduce the elements to be expected. But then I thought , "Why just tease it?  If I gave every girl a few events each, not only does that give people a whole lot of content, it also really shows what Detached is about gameplay-wise." Of course, my unga bunga brain clearly didn't do the math because there's 7 girls and that makes for a lot of events, effectively bumping up an expected New Years initial launch to the beginning of April.

During this time, a whole lot of work on Detached happened. Writing and visualizing 21 additional events, a whole UI rework, QoL improvements, bug testing, etc. And right at the end of it all while I was doing some final playthroughs, I realized that the first event was needing a lot of work, both visually and written. So it received a partial rewrite (the 4th, in fact), a bunch of renders got cut/improved, and it even got broken into two separate events. At this point, I finally decided that 0.1.0 was finally ready for the public.

With all that done, and almost a years worth of free time being invested in this project of passion, I finally allowed myself to slow down for a couple of weeks to stretch my legs and have some time to decompress. Of course, I've still been picking away at some 0.2.0 stuff, but not very intensely.

But now I'm fully back into the development of Detached!

So what does this mean going forward?

Since the initial development of Detached was an absolute mess (having to learn Koikatsu [to which I'm still learning new things] and Ren'Py from scratch in tandem with writing and making renders), this will be the first update where I'm only planning on working on writing and renders first and foremost.

I am but a working family man and this means that I do, unfortunately, have limited time I can work on Detached. I actually do a large amount of my writing on my breaks at work, and while on transit to and from work. All the coding and rendering happens at home on my PC.  This means a very small amount of actual time is spent on Detached in the grand scheme of things, because I also don't like to neglect my family.

So as it is, my plans going forward is as such; I'm going to feel things out for the next few months.

I plan on releasing monthly updates with 3-6 events a month (depending on word and expected render counts).  0.2.0 has 5 Main Events planned, two of which are already fully written. However, due to my little break, expect a June 1st release. Depending on the timeframe I get everything done, extra work on QoL stuff/aesthetics/customizations/additional events may be thrown in to make up for the longer wait.

Following 0.2.0, I should be able to fall into a routine to fully figure out what a monthly schedule means for Detached.

If you've made it this far, thanks for your time!

tl;dr ver.:

- I spent almost a year of my time making  Detached and decided to take a bit of a break after the release of 0.1.0

- Detached was originally going to be released in a very rough state with only 10 events (and an inferior first event)

- 0.2.0 is going to be 5 events long.

- 0.2.0 expected release date is June 1st

- After 0.2.0's release, I'll be figuring out what I can do with Detached on a monthly schedule

- Because of the longer wait for 0.2.0's expected release date, I'll likely do some additional work on Detached.
